Take the U4 to the end stop Seckbacher Landstr. Have a glass of Apfel Wein in one of the ancient timber-wooded apple-wein restaurants. Stroll down this popular street, full of all kind of cafès and pubs, and alternative boutiques. End up at the Bethmannpark, where you can relax after shopping stress. This student district stays very lively even after dark.

Frankfurt´s well-known traditional hospitality means enjoying Frankfurt´s local drink 'Apfelwein' together with hearty dishes like sausage and kraut or the famous “green sauce“, made with fresh herbs in one of the many cosy old-fashioned restaurants. Such places nearby are „Gemaltes Haus“ and „Wagner“, where local people like to gather, only a 15 min. walk away on the other side of the river. Even closer is the elegant but cosy „Klosterhof“ next to the old karmelite monastery, where not just Frankfurt, but all-German cuisine is served.

In the hostel area
In the area around the main station and the hostel there is good-value international take-away food available till late. Chinese restaurant 'Jade' offers many main courses at less than 5 EUR , in the restaurant 'Acapulco' italian and international food is served till late. Turkish, arab, indian or other immigrants´ restaurants are common in Frankfurt anyway.

Frankfurt´s traditional drink: Apfelwein
is home-made in many places. It is a fruity and very dry sort of cider and slightly more alcoholic than beer. It comes in special patterned glasses or, in larger amounts, in special earthenware jugs.

we recommend a 'Handkaes', a very low fat cheese mostly eaten in a marinade of vingar, oil onions and spices.

Ebbelwoi-Express
This is an old tram, very colourfully painted in the seventies, running on an interesting ring route through the center of Frankfurt. Inside (alcoholic) apple wine, apple juice and pretzels are served.
