Worth seeing in Frankfurt

Before ist destruction during the last war´s air raids Frankfurt had the largest medieval gothic city center in central Europe. The cathedral was the coronation site of the German Kings of the old German Empire from 1562 to 1792, the coronations were celebrated on Römerberg, the central square in medieval Frankfurt. In St. Paul´s Church the first all-german Parliament met. Many famous people, like the writer Goethe and the philosopher Schopenhauer, were born or lived in Frankfurt.

On the south banks of the river Main there are most Frankfurt museums in a row, one of Germany ’s best cultural treasures: 'Städel´sches Kunstinstitut', the municipal art gallery with its fine collection, Film Museum,the Museum of Applied Art,the Jewish Museum and the Architecture Museum.

is the inner city district south of the river, where high culture mixes with local drinking culture: most of the museums and most of the “Apfelwein”-Pubs, where the famous local drink, a sort of dry alcoholic cider, is home made and served. Up the hill there is Goetheturm, the highest wooden tower in Germany with the best view on the highest concrete towers in Europe, Frankfurt´s skyline.

In Westend, a noble living and office area, there is (apart from the large public green 'Grueneburgpark'), the 'Palmengarten' for those with botanical interest, with green houses imitating many different climates. There are several upper class restaurants, most of Frankfurt university has recently moved here and Westend´s synagogue impresses with its architecture in historic style.

Massenweise kleinere Shops und mehrere Cafés gibt es in und auf der 'Zeilgalerie' unter einem Dach - und von der Dachterrasse den besten Blick zur greifbar nahen Skyline.
